Children's Environmental Programs

Saturday, May 12
Stacey Karen Bamash, an Environmental Education Specialist at Ridley Creek State Park will present the following free programs.
  • PA Animals Puppet Show @ 10:00 AM, Ages 5-10. Look at the wild animals around you-they have no grocery store, they don't have warm winter clothes, don't live in a home with electric or phone or running water. And yet they seem to do great. Stacey will use puppets to examine the special adaptations that animals have which allows them to thrive without the modern necessities we can't seem to live with out.
  • Endangered Species @ 11:30 AM, Ages 6-11. Stacey will discuss the causes of extinction and endangered species and how it can be prevented. Then she’ll examine a large variety of authentic artifacts made from the remains of animals that have been poached either here or abroad, including a walrus tusk, bear claws, wolf pelt and a tortoise shell jewelry box made out of sea turtle shell.
  • Smokey Bear @ 1:00 PM, Ages 7-11.We teach our children that fire is dangerous and to never play with it, but then how do they learn how to use it safely? The Smokey Bear program is designed to teach older children how to safely use fire and how to properly build, light and extinguish camp fires. NO fires will actually be started. We will use kindling, tinder and fuel logs to practice building campfires on tarps. Parents are encouraged to attend.
