Writing A Blues Song

February 22 @ 7:00 PM

Musician Bradley Litwin demonstrates and discusses the essential elements of composing the blues. Writing exercises will be done by participants to learn the basic structure of the blues, and when finished, Litwin will perform lyrical verses provided by the audience. Participants have the opportunity to explore the history of this American art form by trying it out themselves.
Bradley N. Litwin is a ragtime jazz and stride blues guitarist and singer. Demonstrating the fingerpicking styles of Blind Blake and Robert Johnson, adaptations of “Fats” Waller and Willie “The Lion” Smith, and the crooning of the Mills Brothers, Litwin marries guitar performance with voice. A dedicated preservationist and educator on the subject, Litwin travels throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, engaged in school and community outreach programs, residencies, workshops and lectures for all ages.

This presentation is a program of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, supported in part with federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds administered by the office of Commonwealth Libraries.
